Henry A. J. Ramos at GOGA 2018

Henry A. J. Ramos List of Works
for 2018 GOGA Show With Linda Vance

The images I offer from this series hearken to what is still alive and vibrant in our times—times, sadly, that are increasingly characterized by human conflict, overpopulation, resource depletion, and environmental degradation. These works—inspired by the nature on and surrounding my ten acre ranch near San Luis Obispo, CA—are about the natural world’s remarkable fortitude and grace, even in the face of unprecedented stress and darkness. They strive to remind us of our inherent dependence on the natural world’s survival and sustainability. They suggest with humility a divine responsibility that all of us share to steward the many gifts that fate has graced upon us and our planet.

He is a former board member of the Romare Bearden Foundation; and also a former advisor on arts and culture projects involving the works and collections of the late, world-renowned Mexican muralist Diego Rivera and former U.S. Vice President Nelson A. Linda Vance GOGA show 2018

I am a self-taught artist who paints what she sees. My paintings in this shared show at the Gallery of Graphic Arts are mostly of views near our home in Beaulieu-sur-Mer — from or at our home or from friends’ terraces. But the first painting is of some of the magnificent Aleppo pines on Cap Ferrat. Four still lifes done in New York, our primary residence, are also in the show, as are two Paris watercolors done from a small hotel terrace on lovely spring days. The show was on GOGA’s walls May 1 to June 2, 2018.

Artist’s statement

This is my second show at the Gallery of Graphic Arts. The first solo show of paintings of the South of France was in April 2015. It followed a “South of France” February and March 2015 solo show on the Gallery Wall of CityView Racquet Club in Long Island City. A previous New York show was at Books & Co.’s art space in 1997. I began painting in 1990/91 in Beaulieu-sur-Mer with acrylic on canvas paper, moved on to using canvas and had my first show in Beaulieu at the end of 1994/early 1995. My work is in collections in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Hong Kong.
